The last time I've completed reading the whole book of Quran (khatam) was when I was 11 years old. After that, I read the Yasin every week (due to weekly school religious activities) and randomly the Quran (maybe 3 times a year?).

During my recent Umrah trip, I felt some calmness when reading the Quran and ever since that, I've been trying to make it a habit to read it everyday here back home. However, I fail miserably. Up till today, I still haven't completed the first surah.

An aunty of mine told me this: "Try reading the Quran everyday for 2 weeks, and then notice the differences. After that, try stopping for a week...you'll notice the effects of reading the Quran. Ada mukjizatnya..."

I have never given that a try. I should. I really should.

Today, I read somewhere on Tumblr that during this month of Rejab and Syaaban, we should try reading the Quran, at least a page a day, or even half-a-page a day...and take it as a practice towards the Ramadhan month. Come Ramadhan, try reading 1 Juzu' (chapter) per day..and by 30 days, you can then khatam the Quran, insyaAllah..."

Hmmm. Maybe I should try that....JOM? JOM!

I came across one article regarding Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Albukhari and I find it interesting to be shared with others.

50 facts about his interesting life and principles.

Saya mahu meninggalkan WARISAN UNTUK ANAK BANGSA YANG KEKAL BERPANJANGAN.

2. (berkenaan know who) Bangsa lain tak mengapa tapi orang Melayu kena berdamping dengan orang politik sedikit-sedikit.

Tetapi tentulah ia memakan masa. TIADA JALAN SINGKAT.

4. Saya MENGENALI KEKUATAN DAN KELEMAHAN SAYA.

10. Saya pun suka kemewahan. Saya pun suka tengok dunia, ke Tokyo , New York dan London . Saya pun suka pakai baju elok. Tapi kita hendak bermewah setakat mana, hendak pakai baju banyak mana, hendak tidur dalam berapa rumah satu malam, hendak makan pun sampai larat mana ?

11. Dalam hidup ini kita sebenarnya TIDAK ADA STATUS,ADA MASA DI ATAS ADA MASA DI BAWAH.

17. Saya sedih media tonjolkan saya begini.

25. Orang kata saya takda duit tapi banyak hutang. Orang berniaga mana yang tak berhutang. Tapi MESTI TAHU BAGAIMANA HENDAK MEMINJAM DAN MEMBAYARNYA SEMULA . Ada cara boleh kita buat. Tapi sebelum berhutang RM100 juta mesti sudah fikir bagaimana hendak membayarnya balik. Mesti ada tanggungjawab. BANYAK ORANG MAHU SENANG TAPI TIDAK RAMAI YANG MAHU BERTANGGUNG JAWAB .

26. (perasaan setiap kali mendapat rezeki) . Saya ini kata orang Kedah, lebai kodok bukan lebai pondok. Tapi saya tahu hal-hal asas.

32. KEKAYAAN INI TUHAN BERI KEPADA SAYA UNTUK SAYA MENOLONG ORANG LAIN PULA.SAYA PERCAYA KEPADA KEBERKATAN REZEKI.HARI INI KITA TOLONG ORANG,ESOK LUSA ORANG AKAN TOLONG KITA PULA DENGAN CARA YANG LAIN.

35. Lifestyle ?

42. Sikap merendah diri perlu sentiasa ada dalam diri seseorang walau setinggi mana pun kejayaan dicapai.

44. SAYA SENDIRI BERHUTANG SAMBIL BERNIAGA DAN BUAT SUMBANGAN AMAL JARIAH.SAYA TAK MAHU TUNGGU HUTANG HABIS BARU HENDAK BUAT SEMUA NI .Saya takut kalau hutang habis saya pun mati dan apa pun tak sempat saya buat.

45. Saya biasa saja.

48.SAYA GEMBIRA DAPAT MEMBANTU.SAYA MAHU ORANG LAIN MERASAI KESENANGAN APA YANG PERNAH SAYA RASA.Saya tahu bagaimana perasaanya.

50. SAYA RASA KITA SUDAH TERLALU BANYAK KETINGGALAN.

Note:

When I read this article, I just realized that there are some statements which I have told my wife and some of my friends.

Reasons for me to be rich :-

1. To share my wealth with others who has no chance of having it. I want people to be able to sit in my luxury car, nice house, eat and dine and go to mosque together with me;

2. I want to help the poor, unfortunate and elderly.

3. Islam is simple. God asked us to pray only 5 times and to give some of our money through zakat and charity. BUT, the question is, is it sufficient to give so little when u are capable of giving more? Everything will be questioned at the end of the day. People want to be rich. Very rich. Do they know that being rich is not easy and once u r there, can u do more good deeds? The key to enter paradise to do more good things while we are still here. Being rich is one way to do more good things. That's a fact. Some of the world billionaires is practicing this. Giving more as they believe more will come in.

4. I want to build a mosque. A mosque where the muslims can pray and sleep. A mosque which is 24 hours. Unlike the current mosque in Malaysia which close at certain time. The mosque should have a place where there'll be people teaching, preaching and practicing what they want.

5. I want to spread dakwah and motivate/ inspires others to be great. Great in the sense of a weak muslim as what has been taught by Prophet Muhammad. My achievement is just a platform to attract more people.

6. I want to create businesses for poor people. Charity alone does not help others to get out from their poor life. If given a chance, I think those people can do better and improve their life.

7. Life is short for us to be selfish. God creates human for each other to learn and help each other.

8. I want to travel. Travel to see the greatness of Allah.

I hope one day, Allah will help me and guide me to the path which will lead me to paradise. Ameen.

How many of us strive to be a good muslims? We all are created and designed to have big dreams such as big cars, nice house, branded clothes, loads of cash etc. How many desired to wake up late at night for Tahajud? How many of us take 5-10 minutes to pray Duha? Or how many of us actually pray 5 times a day? Ask yourself.

I have big dreams. I'm a dreamer, always has been. But a dream without hardwork, is useless.

As a human being, I can lie for all the desires that I have. Sometimes, I envy those people who has such fantastic cars, great jobs, big house etc. Compared to me, I have none of those. Comparing me and the street beggars, I am far away better. Comparisons will lead to temptations and there is borderline between being grateful and being greedy.

Have we ever say Thanks to Almighty for whatever we have or we keep on saying we are great when we get what we want? Can we spare some time to pray 2 rakaats of prayer when we receive something great? We say thanks to our boss when we receive praises, promotions etc. Wouldn't God love the people who remembers Him for whatever things He has given?

Being good is not easy. It is a behavior. A well desired behavior. A few simple ways of being good is by emulating the akhlak of Rasulullah. Smile, charity, being good to parents, maintaining a good language and always think of others before yourself. Simple. Start being simple and realistic. InsyaAllah, God will help us to be a better muslims.

In a few days time, I'll be celebrating my 29th birthday. It will be such a memorable day for me this time around.

1. I will be celebrating with my wife since I just got married for 2 months; and
2. I will be celebrating my birthday in Brunei. I'll be sitting in a ferrari or if i'm lucky, I might be able to drive the ferrari.

Well, nothing feels better when u know there is a person who is lovely next to u. Will always be there whether he/she likes it or not. That's the best gift from God to me so far. looking at all the greatest man on earth, u can see that there will be a woman next to him. No man can achieve or sustain glory without a powerful woman next to him.

"She is a lovely woman Anas. Make sure u take good care of her." --This is a statement which I have received quite a number of time. Yes, I will take good care of my pearl. InsyaAllah, I will be the best for her. Finally I have a cause in my life to strive for the best. All these while I have been looking deep into myself and always been wondering what should I do. Why should I do things. bla bla...Now, I just know there'll be no more slip up. Whatever happens this time, I will be the champion for my wife and my family. I don't need to win a medal. It's about letting them know that they can be proud and happy to have a successful man in their arms.

Oh Allah, for my coming 29th birthday, I just want to thank you for the blessings that You have given to me and my family. May You grant us happiness and Jannah oh Allah.

I've started wearing the hijab again. This time around, I'm trying my best to cover up arms fully, meaning no 3-quarter sleeve. And am also slowly progressively trying to cover my chest (breast) area - unless if i'm wearing something loose.

Since this is my second attempt, I already know the styles of hijab that I like and the way to wear them - very simple-lah! The only problem I have is the lack of long sleeve casual shirts and comfy long pants. Hmm...I'm seeing some holes in the pocket developing soon!

I remember when I first wanted to start wearing the hijab about a year ago, I was conscious on what people would think of me. I decided on 2 days notice that I was going to TRY to wear the hijab and surprisingly lasted for about 6 months or so. However, my surrounding wasn't right at that moment..CORRECTION.. I was the one who was not at the right state of mind at that moment. I knew that I wanted to wear the hijab but I wasn't mentally strong and prepared...and I gave up easily.

I once related to a friend on me taking off the hijab and he said, "You know that when you're trying to be better, syaitan will try to beat you stronger, with all sort of challenges.." and at that moment I knew that I failed facing those challenges. I gave in.

Oh well. Past is the past.

This time around, I am more calm with the hijab, I feel at peace. Alhamdulillah. Mr has also been such a supportive partner, always telling me that I look pretty in hijab. Sometimes, that is all that matters, that when your husband says that you look good, you couldn't be bothered with what everyone else say.

"Aik? You're wearing the hijab again?"

"I don't get it.. one time you were not wearing it, and then you wore your scarf, you open it back..and then you're back on?"

"Are you wearing this because you're married? Did your husband force you to?"

"Are you wearing this because you just came back from Umrah?"

And ALL these questions came from the non-muslims..many were curious. As for the Muslims, most of them just smiled and some said "Alhamdulillah.."...only God knows what's in their head! I really hope they mean good! Hihi.

My usual answer..

"Yes... my second attempt.. I'm gonna try this again..", and then they wish me luck.

Honestly, this is not my second attempt. This is no more an attempt but for real. May Allah ease this and give me strength to overcome whatever challenges that the syaitan may give me in putting on the hijab.

When they ask me if I'm doing this because I just came back from Mekkah, I tell them "No..I'm wearing it because it is an obligation as a Muslim.." because that is the fact....

Wearing the hijab (covering the aurat), just like salah (solat) is not an option..it is an obligation.

Jews, Christians, Muslims... despite the differences in believing certain 'book' or certain prophet, we all pray to the same God.

Yusuf Estes, who used to be a strong active American Christian preacher, believed in God and that Jesus is the son of God. He prayed, EVERY single day, that God brings him closer to Jesus and to God..This one time, he was on a strong mission to convert a Muslim to Christian, but he found Islam instead. He is now known as Sheikh Yusuf Estes, a popular dakwah speaker - you can find him all over the internet.

What I'm trying to point out here is, we seek for guidance (hidayah) and Allah chooses who He wants to give his guidance (hidayah) to. A muslim who doesn't pray and doesn't ask for guidance (hidayah) from God is pretty much at the same level with the non-muslims who pray to God (the same God) and seek for Hidayah. With God's will, the non-muslim's prayers will be answered, and he embraces Islam, being like that white piece of cloth- new-born innocent Muslim with all his/her pasts erased. While the non-practicing Muslim will still be a Muslim-by-name, with a black cloth now, and his fate in the hereafter (akhirat) still unsure.

We shouldn't look down at non-Muslims, thinking and confident that we'll get a higher place in the akhirat just because we're Muslims. At any single second, Allah can bring them higher than where we are.  We are all at the same level, seeking for the truth, seeking for the Hidayah.

Always always remember to pray and ask Allah for Hidayah - only Hidayah can bring us to the right straight path.

May this video of Yusuf Estes inspire us. He told the Christian, if you truly want to understand Islam, don't bother reading articles/watching videos on the internet. Just learn arabic and read the Quran.

A few nights back, I told Mr...

"Lets both try our very best to be the best muslim and muslimah, so that when any one of us leave the world first, we will be sad because of the longing feeling for each other and because we will miss each other very much BUT we will be happy and calm because we know, insyaAllah, we will see each other again in Jannah..and by then, it will be for eternity.."

If you love your family and you want to be with them till eternity, love Allah, and remind them to love Allah too.

Remember. Dunya is temporary.
Our weakness? Love for the World & Fear of Death (Cinta Dunia & Takut Mati)

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) once said (predicted)..

“The People will soon summon one another to attack you as people when eating invite others to share their food.” Someone asked, “Will that be because of our small numbers at that time?” He replied, “No, you will be numerous at that time: but you will be froth and scum like that carried down by a torrent (of water), and Allah will take the fear of you from the breasts (hearts) of your enemy and cast al-wahn (weakness) into your hearts.” Someone asked, “O Messenger of Allah, what is al-wahn?” He replied, “Love of the world and dislike of death.”

An authentic hadith recorded by Abu Dawud and Ahmad

As I walked slowly into the mosque, with my husband by my side, my heart was beating faster and faster, with the words of my father-in-law in my head:

“Whoever sees the Kaabah for the first time, the prayers said right at that moment will be granted, insyaAllah..”

And the minute I saw it, I just stood there. As I read my prayers quietly in my heart while looking at it, I cried…and cried..I’m not too sure if it’s the feeling of surreal-ness of if it’s the prayers that I said in my heart, which something that I deeply desire from Allah - but I cried uncontrollably.

I looked at my husband next to me, who said his prayers aloud, and then we both said “Amin…” and smiled each other. Syukur Alhamdulillah..I’m finally here at your house O Allah.

--------------------------------------------------------------

I was also told that honest prayers (du’a) carried out at Hijr Ismail will also be answered, insyaAllah. Hijr Ismail is a small horse-shoe shaped area – cramped with people praying. I carried out a solat hajat, asking Allah to please please please give me a chance to pray there.

I walked towards Hijr Ismail, all the while praising Allah through Zikr, and then with confidence I walked towards it, and all the way, the journey was smooth, Alhamdulillah! Somehow, the crowd magically let me pass through and I even managed to conduct 2 rakaat sunnah prayer without any obstruction of people kicking me or pushing me..masyaAllah. At that moment, I cried..cried even harder.. because at that moment, I felt something that I’ve heard many times before and THOUGHT that I understood it. At that particular moment, I felt FAITH.

As a Muslim, we are taught that Faith is believing the existence of Allah and that the last Messenger of Allah is Nabi Muhammad (PBUH) – which is our kalimah syahadah. Yes I’ve always believed that and never doubt it.. but what I felt at that particular moment, was just unexplainable – it was a feeling of satisfaction – of contentment- of greatness! – masyaAllah. I just couldn’t stop crying, I was crying like a baby! Alhamdulillah – thank you Allah for letting me find YOU there.

Lets try putting this in words – FAITH – is believing and feeling the existence of Allah, and then we conduct our daily action or we pray with confidence that HE will assist us here in this world and that HE will reward (or punish) us for the options we make here. With confidence of Allah, the world will crawl under us, trust me it will. BUT you need to have the confidence, the faith…and the approval (redha) that if it doesn’t happen, there will always be a GOOD reason why – you may see it here in this world or in the hereafter. Have faith, and you will be satisfied and happy, insyaAllah.

I may have travelled all over the world but in Makkah, I found something that I’ve been looking for.. and I pray that this feeling will stay on.. and that the Kaabah will always be in my heart..to remind of of that precious moment.

Allahu Akbar.

Me and Mr. upon arrival at Jeddah Hajj airport.

The crowd pushing in to enter Gua Hira' at Jabar Nur.

The view from Abraj tower - thanks to my aunty for one night there

I just completed reading a book, " The Soul of A Butterfly" from Muhammad Ali and Hana Yasmeen Ali. I was amazed and touched by Muhammad Ali. The words, ideology and thinking is great. It makes me wonder, if he embraced Islam and were proud to his new religion, what am I then? I was born a Muslim and still a Muslim. What have I done that shows that I am a Muslim?

"I believe in the religion of Islam. I believe in Allah and peace"- Muhammad Ali

How touching is that?As a Muslim, I am touched and vows to be a better Muslims. Being a true Muslim will not bring me backwards but I believe that God is with me to the better path of my life. I believe Islam will lead me to a place where I have not been. A place of greatness which I have been looking for.

I have been enjoying reading books lately and I guess I should start reading Holy Quran, Tafseer, The Autobiography of Muhammad and his followers. I vow not be a robot and being dictate by someone. I can listen but NOT to be dictate. Only God can dictate me.

The fear towards mankind should be wiped away. No matter how big, rich, intelligent someone is, only He is Great and that's why He is the Almighty.

Well, I am not a pious or a changed person. Don't change. Change will lead to catastrophe as what has been faced by me. Look for inspirations and motivations daily. There are many honestly.

God created people for reasons. Messi, Muhammad Ali and Lance Amstrong for example, they are great athletes who inspires millions of sport fans due to their unique character. Wealth, fame and glories does not bother them. They inspire with their discipline and character. All of em' believe in God. It shows that whoever believe in God and has a good heart, they will not crumble no matter what.

Our life is too short too complain and brag. Let's change the way we see at things and be thankful for once. No matter what religion we are, we are all praying to the same Al-Mighty. Let's smile and do good deeds starting from today.

Small changes, big differences.

Happy Friday all!

Last Friday,  me and Mr went to a talk by Shaykh Abdulbary Yahya in Taylor's University. The title of the talk was "The Shepherd's Path'. It was about the story of our beloved Prophet Muhammad S.A.W.

This was our second time attending an Islamic talk together, the first was Imam Suhaib Webb's talk about 8 months back. Its always a good feeling, attending Islamic talks with him. Like for an hour or so, we were both on the same page, gaining the same knowledge on Islam, telling each other "Eh write that!" or giving eye contact or signs that say "Hah! Listen to that!"... and I love the follow up discussions we have in the car later after the talks.. (although it may sometimes turn out to debates and fights haha)

I notice that most of the attendees came in groups, probably a usual thing for them, to attend these seminars with a group of friends who share the same interests. I'm sure they often get invites to attend these seminars to improve their knowledge in Islam, how lucky!

As for me and Mr, I have to say that it has never really been our top priority, but I'm glad that we remind each other, that sometimes, we need to attend Islamic talks, in order to remind ourselves too. "Eh jom! There's this talk on... yadda...yadda...yadda..."

We can be a bit picky and bias though. Honestly, we love it when the foreigners talk. First of all, its because its conducted in English. Secondly, because they're easier to relate to our modern practices and it really gets to the heart. We don't get reminders on how we'll be punished if we disobey, instead we're being taught and reminded on how we can improve ourselves and purify our hearts - a more overall positive approach.

There was a moment during the talk, Shaykh talked about the day of the death of our Prophet S.A.W, and while he was telling the story, he teared. I looked around and I saw another 5-6 others, bringing out tissues from their pockets/bags, and wiped their tears too. Me and about 50 others in the hall just listened to his story, just like it was another story.

At that moment, I felt ashamed. Ashamed that I didn't love our Prophet as much as these people did. If we love someone, when we talk about them or their deaths, we can feel the sadness in our hearts. But how can we love someone, if we don't know the person well enough? I was ashamed.

Here we are in this modern world, trying our best to know every single thing about Beyonce's life and her pregnancy, go hysteria over Justin Bieber, and mourn on the death of Steve Jobs, and we read books of top international footballers, and we don't even bother to know our Prophet a little better? Other than stories being told by our Ustaz/Ustazah?

In order to love someone, we need to know and understand the person well. What have we done to understand and know our Prophet Muhammad S.A.W well?

Oh. What a reminder.

On Saturday noon, while I was attending Mr’s best friend’s wedding, Mom called informing me that my uncle had just fell down and was in critical condition in University Hospital.

Right after the wedding, I came back home, showered and left to the hospital with my younger sister. Uncle had haemorrhage (blood pressure in the brain) and when he fell down, it burst. Doctor informed that there was nothing that can be done that we just had to wait and be prepared.

We were at the emergency ward and the atmosphere was very sad and depressing. Only a few were allowed in at a time thus most of us were gathering outside. When I went in, I saw my aunty (Mak Teh) standing strong with a friend, talking to her. My cousin was reading the surah Yassin and so I joined her too.

On Sunday night, he passed away.

Mak Teh is a wonderwoman. I think she has very strong imaan that she accepts whatever it is that is happening. She was very calm and strong throughout the whole weekend, that none of us dared to even cry in front of her. Her strength gave her daughter and her siblings strength too. This is the first funeral that I’ve attended, where only a few teared; and mind you, only teared, and not cried.  In Islam, we are not encouraged to cry in front of the deceased (in public) or even worst turn hysteria. We have to accept that this is Allah’s decision and it’s the best for everyone. We need to redha – meaning wholeheartedly accept to the decision to what Allah has decided upon. And to be redha, you need that strong imaan – that strong believe and faith in Allah.

I was also surprised with how reliable my dad’s siblings were. All of them were there at the hospital, supporting this sister of theirs. Never once, was Mak Teh left alone. When my uncle passed, each and every one tried their best in assisting wherever they can. Some read the Quran, some helped rearranging furnitures at her house and place carpets for guests, some bought food and drinks, some handled the funeral processes, some informed others about the news, some stayed over Mak Teh’s and some just supported her and her daughter emotionally.

I was also very very proud of my younger sister Mira, who did a very good job in taking care of Mak Teh’s only grandchild throughout the whole weekend. She distracted her when everyone was busy preparing the funeral. She watched cartoon, played Ipad and slept with her. She even had to answer all her questions:

“What is wrong with Tok Wan?” “Will Tok Wan come back after he jumpa Tuhan?” “Tok Wan tak miss Alya ke?” “Alya nak tunjuk Tok Wan baju baru Alya” “Alya takut laaa,”

Death is a reminder to all of us still living. All these money and power that we’re chasing, at the end of the day, none will be brought to the hereafter other than 3 things:
  1. Son’s prayers for his/her parents
  2. Charity given throughout his living
  3. Knowledge shared throughout his living

We don’t know when Allah will take our life away. We need to be in a ready state every minute. Have a balance between life now and the life hereafter.

Have you prayed already?

Dear Friends,

There's never been a day that passes without that small thought inside my head.

"When will I start wearing the hijab again?"

I hope the time will come soon. And this time around, permanently.

Please pray for me :)

Much Love. XOXO.
