Throughout the Ramadan month, I've been reading this book - as recommended by a member of Small Changes. It is called The Meaning of Al-Quran; the Guidance for Mankind. It is not a literal translation of the Quran - where the sentences can be quite hard to understand. The book is written to make it easier for young Muslims and new Muslim converts to understand the content of the Quran.

According to the book, no such translation can be as beautiful as the arabic form of the Al-Quran itself thus if you really want to embrace it, go and learn the arabic language :)

Anyways, here today, I'd like to share a couple of versus in the Quran on Ramadhan.

On the obligation of fasting:
O believers! Fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you so that you may learn self-restraint. Fast the prescribed number of days; except if any of you is ill or on a journey, then fast a similar number of days later. For those who can not endure it for medical reasons, there is a ransom; the feeding of one poor person for each missed day. Whoever does more good than this voluntarily, it is better for him. However, if you truly understand the rationale of fasting, it is better for you to fast.  Al-Baqarah :[183-184]

On Husband-wife relationship is permitted during nights of Fasting month & Timings of Fasting:
It is made lawful for you to approach your wives during the night of the fast; they are an apparel for you and you for them. Allah knows that you were committing dishonesty to your souls. So He has relented towards you and pardoned you. Now, you may approach your wives and seek what Allah has written for you. Eat and drink until the white thread of dawn appears to you distinct from the black thread of the night, then complete your fast till nightfall. Do not approach your wives during I'htikaf (retreat in the mosques in last 10 days of Ramadhan). These are limits set by Allah; do not ever violate them. Thus Allah makes His revelations clear to mankind so that they may guard themselves against evil.  Al-Baqarah [187]

I will keep on sharing interesting versus as I come along them. You may also buy this book at your nearest MPH bookstores.

Salam 17Ramadhan!
