Many times we tell ourselves that "Yes, I Can," as a way to motivate ourselves to be better. But little did I know that this is only a small part of us conquering our own minds.

I used to tell my dad, "I don't think I'm that good at Additional Maths subject, I don't seem to be scoring it like others do," and back then he told me that, "Look! Saying that, means you are already telling your mind that you are not good. You are already setting a wall in your mind, a blockage,". I never really understood it, I mean, Hello? Why can't I complain that I'm not good? Am I suppose to say that I'm good at everything even when I'm not? Hellooo?

But you know what, we have the capability to trick our mind. Success is about conquering the mind. This is something that I just realized these past week, thanks to the IMKK seminar by Dr Azizan that I attended and also by discussing further with my father-in-law.

We all know that our brain has waves:

1. Beta Wave - The Waking Consciousness 
This is the heightened state of alertness, the state when you are walking and talking, the state when you're awake. Its most important for effective functioning throughout the day. The Beta wave has voices; the nagging inner voice that gives reasoning and logical thinking to every situation you go through out the day.

2. Alpha Wave - The Deep Relaxation Wave 
This is the time that your subconcious mind takes over the brain. It happens when you are relaxing, or when you're just about to sleep or during light meditation. Do you know that this is the time that you can program your mind for success?

3. The other two waves are the Theta & Delta Waves - which are the state the brain goes into when sleeping and during deep sleep. Not so important here as I would like to share about the Beta & Alpha wave.

The ALPHA WAVE. The time when you are in that relaxed mode, is the best time that you can program your mind on what you want. This is also the strongest connection you can have with Allah, in telling Him your heart desires.

Some of the times that you brain gets into the alpha mode is through:

1. Solat (Salah)

If you read the book 'Think & Grow Rich' by Napolean Hill, or if your ask any psychologists, one of the ways to get your mind into the subconcious state is by breathing in deeply, hold your breath for 4 seconds and then breathe out again. Do you know that to achieve khusyukness (focus) during solat is to breathe in and out this way just before you start solat and also just before each sentences of reciting your surahs.

By doing this, you will get your mind into the Alpha state, and shut down all the voices from the Beta wave; you know, those voices of logical thinking and reasoning? Focus on Allah. And then right after your salaam, recite your prayers (du'a), while still in that state. Feel that connection that you have with Him.

The same can be applied to Zikir & reading the Quran. Breathe in deeply, hold for 4 seconds, and breathe out again. Feel that connection. Instead of praying just because you have to pray, and read the Quran just because you have to.. and keep on looking for that 'feeling' of connection. Ask Him all that you want, tell Him that you want that job position, that you want to score that particular exam, that you want a child, be specific! When do you want it? What is the score that you want? Which position? Which car model? Which year? Don't just say success, it can mean different things to different people.

When you first start practicing this, be patient with yourself. It takes time for your mind to get used to this.

2. Before sleeping & upon waking up

This is also why its sunnah for you to recite do'a just before sleeping and after waking up. Set your mind on what you want before you sleep, make do'a to Allah and do the same upon waking up.

This situation is also good for parents to shape up their children's characters. Just before they sleep, you know when they're in that dreamy zone, say positive things to them, tell them that they're smart and intelligent, that they're good muslims and muslimahs, that they will be nice to others. You can do the same to your partners too! Tell your husband "You're a good muslim, you're a good husband," and tell your wife "You're beautiful, you will have beautiful children," etc.

3. During shower

Do you realize how your mind comes up with splendid superb ideas when you're having a shower? I feel that all the time! That sometimes I just open up the door and shout a random idea to Mr. so that I will not forget it when I'm out.  Tell yourself positive things during this time. Even affirmative things to yourself, even when you haven't achieved it.

It seems that water has a strong purification power that it puts you into a relaxed state. Which is why sometimes when you're stressed out, you feel much better after your bath. Which is also why we take wudhu', to get ourselves prepared to face the alpha state.

4. When drinking water.

Just like the point before, water helps in getting yourself into the alpha state. That short duration of time when you drink water, talk to your brain.

5. During orgasm

This may be a little too private for those unmarried couples, but orgasm is indeed the highest state of the subconscious mind that you can reach before falling into the next wave. During that peak time of sex, ensure that you imagine having a good child, imagine if it is a girl or a boy, imagine how cute he/she is. Imagine your success story, who will be there beside you, where will you be in 5-10 years time. Imagine and believe it.

There are also other ways like listening to music and doing yoga. Google and you'll find out more.

Psychologists say that in order for you to change a habit, or in order for your mind to believe what you tell them, you have to repeatedly tell yourself the same dream for 44 days. According to my father-in-law, in Islam, its 40 days. I'm not too sure the magical story behind 40 days. He says its in the Quran. I will have to understand more from him.

Print out pictures of your dreams. Write them out. FEEL your dream, go and test drive that car that you've always wanted, or visit that house that you want to buy, try your best to feel it so that the imagination becomes stronger.

Many people can imagine but underestimate the power of the mind. You think you can only achieve so and so when the truth is, you can stretch your mind to imagine more than you think you can. Imagine the impossible. Your mind will do the magic, your body will automatically just follow your mind. Conquer your mind. Learn to shut out that voices in your head that tell you that you cannot, telling you that its impossible. Stop whining and stop telling yourself "Why can't I do this, why am I so unlucky'

These are some of the things that are explain in Western books like 'Think & Grow Rich', 'The Power of Your Subconcious Mind', 'The Secret' . But little did I know that many of our everyday Islamic practices can already help us getting what we want, provided we understand how to and why is it that we do what we do. Islam IS the way of life. There's just so many secrets that you need to unlock! You'll be surprised!

You know how we've been taught to 'Usaha, Doa & Tawakal'? I now learn that you should 'Doa, Usaha & Tawakal,'. Set your mind right, then work towards it and then insyaAllah, you will get what you want.

If not, like I always said, Allah Knows Best.

Now I wonder, why didn't anyone tell me this before this? Come to think of it, actually my father did, and so did Mr. but I chose not to listen, only believing part of it, and another part of me being skeptical, saying 'How is that possible?'

Conquer your mind. Imagine the impossible. And go and achieve it.

I had a discussion with my General Manager on work issues. Well, I was talking about our vendor list and she said to me a few things:

1. Don't talk, just do.
2. Do things better from the beginning as this will add on to the work values. It can give a significant impact towards the work.
3. Do more homework/ research since I am on the verge of quitting smoking.
4. Complaint sucks. Be more positive in changing the wrong things.

Ok, good advise. That's why she's the GM and I'm the executive. Point taken boss!

I woke up at 5am in the morning and I had some difficulty in breathing. I prayed Isya' and slept again. Woke up and felt something is going to be wrong with me. Sick?

Well, in the office, i was a little quiet today. In the morning, my boss came over to me and ask me how's your lung? I'm like, what? my lung? Oh, I just said I'm not feeling that good. He said that there's nothing wrong with me (he knows I am quitting my ciggies). It's all in the head. I just sit and listen to the old man babbling.

He called me to his room and was giving me some words of advise.

1. You started smoking because you want to be the macho man. Puffing here and there and acted like you are a man. (well, this happens to most guys/ gals).
2. The cigarette can lead to impotence one day. (I head about this when I was young).
3. My wife loves me and that's why she is asking/ persuading me to quit. (ok, for whatever reason it is, it is for something good. I'll do it and I am still doing it).

Well, today is my 2nd week of quitting. Not bad actually. This time I am quitting for real. Should be.

So far, I managed to control the urge to smoke. My ways of controlling the urge is :-

1. Eat less/ eat before I get full.
2. Drink loads and loads of plain water.
3. Start exercising - well, it ain't easy but I am trying my best to exercise. Hopefully this will be my changes in the coming months.
4. Don't talk about cigarette. You talk, you are missing it. DON't talk. I am doing that and so far it works.

My ultimate goal is to quit smoking as I believe it can give me a lot of motivation in my life. Quitting something that you like is like sacrificing some part of your life isn't it?

Pleasure is eternal. You develop and you invest in eternal happiness.
Don't be cheated and fooled by the society and media.

You create you life. Whatever happens in the past is for you to create a better history. Mourning is for sore losers. Wake up. Be the man!

We are the champion.

4. Saya MENGENALI KEKUATAN DAN KELEMAHAN SAYA. Apa yang tidak mampu buat saya akan minta orang lain tengok-tengokkan. Saya melalui jalan yang susah tapi itulah jalan yang kekal.

13. Korporat Cina turun ke bawah membantu. Orang Cina ada pelbagai persatuan. Kita tidak ada; kalau ada pun berpecah.ORANG MELAYU KITA TIDAK MAHU BEKERJASAMA KERANA PERASAAN DENGKI MENGUASAI DIRI.SUDAHLAH TAK MAHU BERUSAHA,APABILA ORANG LAIN BERUSAHA MEREKA MARAH.

14. Rezeki yang ada itu sebenarnya untuk orang lain. Memang dari segi hukum pun begitu. Kita kena keluar zakat dan fitrah. Tetapi zakat fitrah banyak mana sangat. Islam agama yang adil; ia minta sedikit saja. Oleh itu, kalau ada duit yang lebih ia seharusnya dibelanjakan dengan baik.

15. Saya tak kisah kalau saya tak buat semua ini. Saya boleh tak buat apa-apa dan balik ke Alor Star. Tetapi saya rasa hidup ini sia-sia. Orang Kedah kata kalau mati nanti mata tidak tutup rapat kerana tanggungjawab depan mata kita tidak buat. Orang lain ambil kekayaan kita, ambil hak kita dan pergunakan kita, kita masih tidak buat apa-apa !

16. Saya ADA EMOTIONAL ATTACHMENT KEPADA AGAMA,BANGSA DAN UMMAH. Saya bukan individualistik. Diri saya tidak penting. Pangkat dan gelaran ini kepada saya tidak mustahak .

17. Saya sedih media tonjolkan saya begini. Saya malu kerana orang Cina kaya beratus-ratus kali ganda daripada saya. Tapi saya tahu orang Melayu kalau hendak berjaya kena kerja kuat tidak kira siang malam. Kita ada kekuatan yang tuhan beri melebihi daripada bangsa lain. Tetapi untuk maju kita perlu berusaha.

23. Saya percaya kalau rezeki itu Allah beri kepada saya ia bukan untuk saya tetapi untuk orang ramai juga. Orang tidak tahu banyak syarikat yang saya ada ini gagal dan tidak maju kepada saya tetapi orang tidak tahu.

24. Banyak orang percaya bahawa dia mesti ada RM10 juta atau RM20 juta dalam tangan baru hidup boleh selamat. Ini yang menyebabkan mereka HANYUT DARIPADA MENOLONG ORANG LAIN . Mereka lebih takutkan diri sendiri. Mereka lupa bahawa kekayaan tidak boleh membantu selama-lamanya.

25. Orang kata saya takda duit tapi banyak hutang. Orang berniaga mana yang tak berhutang. Tapi MESTI TAHU BAGAIMANA HENDAK MEMINJAM DAN MEMBAYARNYA SEMULA . Ada cara boleh kita buat. Tapi sebelum berhutang RM100 juta mesti sudah fikir bagaimana hendak membayarnya balik. Mesti ada tanggungjawab. BANYAK ORANG MAHU SENANG TAPI TIDAK RAMAI YANG MAHU BERTANGGUNG JAWAB .

26. (perasaan setiap kali mendapat rezeki) . Saya ini kata orang Kedah, lebai kodok bukan lebai pondok. Tapi saya tahu hal-hal asas. Kalau mahu saya minta terus dari tuhan. Tuhan beri manusia akal dan fikiran. Kalau hendak pakai baju dan seluar biarlah padan dengan badan.

27. Kesenangan yang saya perolehi ini datang dengan tanggungjawab (bila pinjam bayar balik dan buat amal jariah). Kalau hendak dibandingkan dengan bangsa lain, perniagaan saya ini tidak ada apa. Tetapi walaupun sedikit tetapi yang sedikit itu ada berkatnya.

28. SAYA SUKA KALAU NIKMAT SEDIKIT YANG SAYA DAPAT ITU ORANG LAIN BOLEH BERKONGSI BERSAMA.

29. Saya kadang-kadang kecewa dan sedih melihat anak orang alim yang sesetengahnya lupa diri setelah mendapat kekayaan. 33. Kalaupun tidak sanggup tunggu 34 tahun seperti saya berilah sedikit masa untuk faham selok belok perniagaan, Insya Allah boleh maju.

34.KITA JANGAN CEPAT PUTUS ASA.PUTUS ASA BOLEH TAPI KENA CEPAT-CEPAT KUATKAN SEMULA SEMANGAT UNTUK BANGKIT BALIK.JANGAN JADIKAN AGAMA HANYA SATU TEMPAT UNTUK KITA BERGANTUNG APABILA KITA SUSAH . Tanggungjawab ibadah adalah tugas seharian.

35. Lifestyle ? Saya tidak ada lifestyle yang kena masuk kelab sana dan sini. Tapi tak semestinya saya tidak boleh turun ke kelab. Orang Melayu kalau hendak ke depan mesti ada cara hidup yang fleksibel, boleh naik dan turun.

36. Lifestyle ini sebenarnya satu penyakit. Saya biasa pakai Mercedes tapi sekarang saya pakai Proton Perdana untuk sokong kereta nasional. Kereta itu pun cukup untuk bawa saya ke mana-mana.

37. Tiada sebab kenapa orang Melayu tidak boleh maju. Ini saya berani perang dengan sesiapa pun. Orang Melayu boleh maju . Kalau saudara jadi wartawan saudara kena tanam semangat suatu hari nanti mahu ambil alih akhbar ini. Tidak ada sebab kenapa ia tidak boleh berlaku.

38. KEJAYAAN DAN KELEMAHAN ORANG MELAYU BUKAN DISEBABKAN OLEH BANGSA DAN AGAMA KITA.TETAPI IA BERKAIT DENGAN SIKAP DAN CARA KITA BERFIKIR.GIGIH ,TEKUN DAN TIDAK PUTUS ASA MERUPAKAN KUNCI KEJAYAAN KITA.SAYANGNYA PERKARA INI KURANG WUJUD DALAM CARA ORANG MELAYU BERFIKIR .

39.TUHAN MEMBERI PELUANG KEPADA SESIAPA SAJA YANG BEKERJA KUAT. Apa yang ada pada saya ini hanya usaha. Kalau anak dangau macam saya boleh, tidak ada sebab orang lain terutama mereka yang dari pekan tidak boleh.

40. Kita tidak usahlah selalu mengulang-ulang perkara yang boleh memberikan kesan psikologi negatif kepada orang Melayu (kereta dan rumah besar). Kita kena kurangkan bercakap tentang kereta besar dan rumah besar . Sesiapa pun mahu pakai kereta mewah tapi bukan itu matlamatnya.

41.ORANG MELAYU SEBENARNYA KENA BANTU DIRI SENDIRI,KENA BEKERJA KERAS DAN FOKUS .

42. Sikap merendah diri perlu sentiasa ada dalam diri seseorang walau setinggi mana pun kejayaan dicapai.

43. Apa yang saya buat ini (kerja-kerja sosial) semuanya bermula daripada didikan orang tua saya sendiri.

44. SAYA SENDIRI BERHUTANG SAMBIL BERNIAGA DAN BUAT SUMBANGAN AMAL JARIAH.SAYA TAK MAHU TUNGGU HUTANG HABIS BARU HENDAK BUAT SEMUA NI .Saya takut kalau hutang habis saya pun mati dan apa pun tak sempat saya buat.

45. Saya biasa saja. Hidup saya tidak berubah, dari dulu beginilah. Saya terima apa saja nikmat yang diberikan oleh Allah. Tidak ada segelas air, ada setengah gelas pun saya bersyukur.

46. Kalau kerana sedikit bantuan itu mereka lulus peperiksaan dan hidup mereka menjadi lebih baik, saya sudah gembira. Saya tidak boleh buat banyak. Alhamdulillah,LEBIH BAIK BUAT SEDIKIT DARIPADA TIDAK BUAT LANGSUNG.

47. Saya tiada minat untuk beli kapal layar atau kapal terbang. Saya fikir kalau saya beli sesuatu biarlah orang ramai boleh pakai. Saya suka kalau saya beli sesuatu yang mahal, biarlah orang ramai boleh pakai.

48.SAYA GEMBIRA DAPAT MEMBANTU.SAYA MAHU ORANG LAIN MERASAI KESENANGAN APA YANG PERNAH SAYA RASA.Saya tahu bagaimana perasaanya. Saya kata kepada diri saya, apa yang saya dapat saya mesti beri orang lain merasainya sama. Jangan beri kurang, lebih tak mengapa. Itu yang membuat hati saya seronok.

49. Saya rasa saya ingin menyumbang lebih daripada ini. Saya kata kepada kawan-kawan ini baru warm-up saja; kita belum berjalan lagi.

50. SAYA RASA KITA SUDAH TERLALU BANYAK KETINGGALAN.

When I read this article, I just realized that there are some statements which I have told my wife and some of my friends. 

Reasons for me to be rich :-

1. To share my wealth with others who has no chance of having it. I want people to be able to sit in my luxury car, nice house, eat and dine and go to mosque together with me;

2. I want to help the poor, unfortunate and elderly. 

3. Islam is simple. God asked us to pray only 5 times and to give some of our money through zakat and charity. BUT, the question is, is it sufficient to give so little when u are capable of giving more? Everything will be questioned at the end of the day. People want to be rich. Very rich. Do they know that being rich is not easy and once u r there, can u do more good deeds? The key to enter paradise to do more good things while we are still here. Being rich is one way to do more good things. That's a fact. Some of the world billionaires is practicing this. Giving more as they believe more will come in.

4. I want to build a mosque. A mosque where the muslims can pray and sleep. A mosque which is 24 hours. Unlike the current mosque in Malaysia which close at certain time. The mosque should have a place where there'll be people teaching, preaching and practicing what they want.

5. I want to spread dakwah and motivate/ inspires others to be great. Great in the sense of a weak muslim as what has been taught by Prophet Muhammad. My achievement is just a platform to attract more people. 

6. I want to create businesses for poor people. Charity alone does not help others to get out from their poor life. If given a chance, I think those people can do better and improve their life. 

7. Life is short for us to be selfish. God creates human for each other to learn and help each other. 

8. I want to travel. Travel to see the greatness of Allah. 

I hope one day, Allah will help me and guide me to the path which will lead me to paradise. Ameen.

This is what I wrote on last Monday morning when I opened up my office computer. I figured out a way of my becoming a better employee and print it out and stick on my cubicle. Might be useful to some others who seeks for aspirations towards becoming a better employee.


13 Rules of becoming a better employee.

1.      Put away facebook/ twitter during working hours 
2.      Minimize internet surfing
3.      Less emailing unnecessarily
4.      Spend less time talking on the phone unless if required so
5.      Less mingling/ gossiping with colleagues
6.      Stop smoking
7.      Plan the work accordingly
8.      Strategies the work. The best defense is to attack. Get ready for people to ask questions.
9.      Emulate someone who is good at work. Try to be better than he is
10.    Wear nice clothes to work. Nice clothes will lead to confidence
11.    Do product/ market research regularly
12.    Have own file for easy reference
13.    Minimize spending time with vendors – strictly business. RESPECT is to be earned.

How many of us strive to be a good muslims? We all are created and designed to have big dreams such as big cars, nice house, branded clothes, loads of cash etc. How many desired to wake up late at night for Tahajud? How many of us take 5-10 minutes to pray Duha? Or how many of us actually pray 5 times a day? Ask yourself.

I have big dreams. I'm a dreamer, always has been. But a dream without hardwork, is useless.

As a human being, I can lie for all the desires that I have. Sometimes, I envy those people who has such fantastic cars, great jobs, big house etc. Compared to me, I have none of those. Comparing me and the street beggars, I am far away better. Comparisons will lead to temptations and there is borderline between being grateful and being greedy.

Have we ever say Thanks to Almighty for whatever we have or we keep on saying we are great when we get what we want? Can we spare some time to pray 2 rakaats of prayer when we receive something great? We say thanks to our boss when we receive praises, promotions etc. Wouldn't God love the people who remembers Him for whatever things He has given?

Being good is not easy. It is a behavior. A well desired behavior. A few simple ways of being good is by emulating the akhlak of Rasulullah. Smile, charity, being good to parents, maintaining a good language and always think of others before yourself. Simple. Start being simple and realistic. InsyaAllah, God will help us to be a better muslims.

A year ago I made an attempt to quit smoking and managed to actually quit for 50 days. Well, I thought I had won the battle but no! I made a wrong move by smoking a ciggie when I was out for an office trip with my colleagues. I thought a stick wouldn't effect my cravings but I was wrong. I once again become a smoker from there on.

I was told by my mother in law to quit smoking when I was engaged with her daughter. She asked me to promise to quit and I said I'll try to quit 2 months after marriage and yet, I was still smoking and it furiates her badly. I asked myself should I continue making someone angry or should I quit. Ok, if i quit because of her, I will tend to smoke again isn't it? Then its not about her. I've always wanted to quit. Well, whatever it is, smoking is not good. It's NOT COOL either. So for whatever reason it may be, I just ought to quit!

Well, I told Mrs that I will smoke the last ciggie on my birthday which was on 15th April. So from 16th of April to 18th of April, I have managed to stop. 3 days it is. So now my target is to complete the whole week of not smoking. All the best Mr! That's how I keep telling myself.

"I am stronger than The Great Wall of China".

All the best to you guys who is trying to quit as well. Let's keep on supporting each other.

A few things that I learned from the past failure:-

1) keep the mind occupied with something else;
2) DO NOT TALK ABOUT CIGARETTE. the concept is simple. e.g. You break up with your partner and you keep on talking about your x. Doesn't that means you missing him/ her? Being ignorant is the key.;
3) Do not tell the whole world you are quitting. The more people knows you are quitting, the more they'll try to bring you down. Logic behind this is smokers will not support their friends to quit as they themselves are unable to quit;
4) Drink more plain water. Less coffee, less sugar. This will detox your body and flush out the bad chemicals inside your body;
5) Eat less as well. When we eat less, the less we want to smoke. (this is just me trying to diet as well);
6) Pray and pray. By increasing our spiritual, we will not be tempted to smoke. (again, this is just something that I'm trying to do at the moment).

Well, I'll keep on posting about the progress and let's see if I can beat the crave to smoke for real this time.

I was having a short conversation with a friend of mine while futsalling earlier and he was sharing a few tips with me.

He said, his principle in life is simple. He is motivated by DUIT or money in english.

I was like, money? Well, I guess everyone or almost all human being is motivated by money. Anyways, the interesting part about the DUIT is it is actually Dua' (prayers), Usaha ( effort), Istiqamah (steadfastness) and Tawakkal (trust and reliance on God's will). So there it goes. It has a wonderful hidden meaning under the duit (money) principle. Kinda cool it seems. I believe it is practical and doable. I'll try and see if this principle can work for me.

In a few days time, I'll be celebrating my 29th birthday. It will be such a memorable day for me this time around.

1. I will be celebrating with my wife since I just got married for 2 months; and
2. I will be celebrating my birthday in Brunei. I'll be sitting in a ferrari or if i'm lucky, I might be able to drive the ferrari.

Well, nothing feels better when u know there is a person who is lovely next to u. Will always be there whether he/she likes it or not. That's the best gift from God to me so far. looking at all the greatest man on earth, u can see that there will be a woman next to him. No man can achieve or sustain glory without a powerful woman next to him.

"She is a lovely woman Anas. Make sure u take good care of her." --This is a statement which I have received quite a number of time. Yes, I will take good care of my pearl. InsyaAllah, I will be the best for her. Finally I have a cause in my life to strive for the best.All these while I have been looking deep into myself and always been wondering what should I do. Why should I do things. bla bla...Now, I just know there'll be no more slip up. Whatever happens this time, I will be the champion for my wife and my family. I don't need to win a medal. It's about letting them know that they can be proud and happy to have a successful man in their arms.

Oh Allah, for my coming 29th birthday, I just want to thank you for the blessings that You have given to me and my family. May You grant us happiness and Jannah oh Allah.

I just completed reading a book, " The Soul of A Butterfly" from Muhammad Ali and Hana Yasmeen Ali. I was amazed and touched by Muhammad Ali. The words, ideology and thinking is great. It makes me wonder, if he embraced Islam and were proud to his new religion, what am I then? I was born a Muslim and still a Muslim. What have I done that shows that I am a Muslim?


"I believe in the religion of Islam. I believe in Allah and peace"- Muhammad Ali

How touching is that?As a Muslim, I am touched and vows to be a better Muslims. Being a true Muslim will not bring me backwards but I believe that God is with me to the better path of my life. I believe Islam will lead me to a place where I have not been. A place of greatness which I have been looking for.

I have been enjoying reading books lately and I guess I should start reading Holy Quran, Tafseer, The Autobiography of Muhammad and his followers. I vow not be a robot and being dictate by someone. I can listen but NOT to be dictate. Only God can dictate me.

The fear towards mankind should be wiped away. No matter how big, rich, intelligent someone is, only He is Great and that's why He is the Almighty.

Well, I am not a pious or a changed person. Don't change. Change will lead to catastrophe as what has been faced by me. Look for inspirations and motivations daily. There are many honestly.

God created people for reasons. Messi, Muhammad Ali and Lance Amstrong for example, they are great athletes who inspires millions of sport fans due to their unique character. Wealth, fame and glories does not bother them. They inspire with their discipline and character. All of em' believe in God. It shows that whoever believe in God and has a good heart, they will not crumble no matter what.

Our life is too short too complain and brag. Let's change the way we see at things and be thankful for once. No matter what religion we are, we are all praying to the same Al-Mighty. Let's smile and do good deeds starting from today.

First : Fix in your mind the exact amount of money you desire. It is not sufficient merely to say, " I want plenty of money." Be definite as to the amount.

Second: Determine exactly what you intend to give in return for the money you desire. (There is no such reality as "something for nothing.")

Third: Establish a definite date when you intend to possess the money you desire.

Fourth: Create a definite plan for carrying out your desire, and begin at once, whether you are ready or not, to put this plan into action.

Fifth: Write out clear, concise statement of the amount of money you intend to acquire, name the time limit for its acquisition, state what you intend to give in return for the money, and describe clearly the plan through which you intend to accumulate it.

Sixth: Read your written statement aloud, twice daily, once just before retiring at night, and once after arising in the morning.

'You've got to find what you love,' Jobs says

This is a prepared text of the Commencement address delivered by Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple Computer and of Pixar Animation Studios, on June 12, 2005.

I am honored to be with you today at your commencement from one of the finest universities in the world. I never graduated from college. Truth be told, this is the closest I've ever gotten to a college graduation. Today I want to tell you three stories from my life. That's it. No big deal. Just three stories.

The first story is about connecting the dots.

I dropped out of Reed College after the first 6 months, but then stayed around as a drop-in for another 18 months or so before I really quit. So why did I drop out?

It started before I was born. My biological mother was a young, unwed college graduate student, and she decided to put me up for adoption. She felt very strongly that I should be adopted by college graduates, so everything was all set for me to be adopted at birth by a lawyer and his wife. Except that when I popped out they decided at the last minute that they really wanted a girl. So my parents, who were on a waiting list, got a call in the middle of the night asking: "We have an unexpected baby boy; do you want him?" They said: "Of course." My biological mother later found out that my mother had never graduated from college and that my father had never graduated from high school. She refused to sign the final adoption papers. She only relented a few months later when my parents promised that I would someday go to college.

And 17 years later I did go to college. But I naively chose a college that was almost as expensive as Stanford, and all of my working-class parents' savings were being spent on my college tuition. After six months, I couldn't see the value in it. I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life and no idea how college was going to help me figure it out. And here I was spending all of the money my parents had saved their entire life. So I decided to drop out and trust that it would all work out OK. It was pretty scary at the time, but looking back it was one of the best decisions I ever made. The minute I dropped out I could stop taking the required classes that didn't interest me, and begin dropping in on the ones that looked interesting.

It wasn't all romantic. I didn't have a dorm room, so I slept on the floor in friends' rooms, I returned coke bottles for the 5¢ deposits to buy food with, and I would walk the 7 miles across town every Sunday night to get one good meal a week at the Hare Krishna temple. I loved it. And much of what I stumbled into by following my curiosity and intuition turned out to be priceless later on. Let me give you one example:

Reed College at that time offered perhaps the best calligraphy instruction in the country. Throughout the campus every poster, every label on every drawer, was beautifully hand calligraphed. Because I had dropped out and didn't have to take the normal classes, I decided to take a calligraphy class to learn how to do this. I learned about serif and san serif typefaces, about varying the amount of space between different letter combinations, about what makes great typography great. It was beautiful, historical, artistically subtle in a way that science can't capture, and I found it fascinating.

None of this had even a hope of any practical application in my life. But ten years later, when we were designing the first Macintosh computer, it all came back to me. And we designed it all into the Mac. It was the first computer with beautiful typography. If I had never dropped in on that single course in college, the Mac would have never had multiple typefaces or proportionally spaced fonts. And since Windows just copied the Mac, it's likely that no personal computer would have them. If I had never dropped out, I would have never dropped in on this calligraphy class, and personal computers might not have the wonderful typography that they do. Of course it was impossible to connect the dots looking forward when I was in college. But it was very, very clear looking backwards ten years later.

Again, you can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something — your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.

My second story is about love and loss.

I was lucky — I found what I loved to do early in life. Woz and I started Apple in my parents garage when I was 20. We worked hard, and in 10 years Apple had grown from just the two of us in a garage into a $2 billion company with over 4000 employees. We had just released our finest creation — the Macintosh — a year earlier, and I had just turned 30. And then I got fired. How can you get fired from a company you started? Well, as Apple grew we hired someone who I thought was very talented to run the company with me, and for the first year or so things went well. But then our visions of the future began to diverge and eventually we had a falling out. When we did, our Board of Directors sided with him. So at 30 I was out. And very publicly out. What had been the focus of my entire adult life was gone, and it was devastating.

I really didn't know what to do for a few months. I felt that I had let the previous generation of entrepreneurs down - that I had dropped the baton as it was being passed to me. I met with David Packard and Bob Noyce and tried to apologize for screwing up so badly. I was a very public failure, and I even thought about running away from the valley. But something slowly began to dawn on me — I still loved what I did. The turn of events at Apple had not changed that one bit. I had been rejected, but I was still in love. And so I decided to start over.

I didn't see it then, but it turned out that getting fired from Apple was the best thing that could have ever happened to me. The heaviness of being successful was replaced by the lightness of being a beginner again, less sure about everything. It freed me to enter one of the most creative periods of my life.

During the next five years, I started a company named NeXT, another company named Pixar, and fell in love with an amazing woman who would become my wife. Pixar went on to create the worlds first computer animated feature film, Toy Story, and is now the most successful animation studio in the world. In a remarkable turn of events, Apple bought NeXT, I returned to Apple, and the technology we developed at NeXT is at the heart of Apple's current renaissance. And Laurene and I have a wonderful family together.

I'm pretty sure none of this would have happened if I hadn't been fired from Apple. It was awful tasting medicine, but I guess the patient needed it. Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don't lose faith. I'm convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did. You've got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don't settle.

My third story is about death.

When I was 17, I read a quote that went something like: "If you live each day as if it was your last, someday you'll most certainly be right." It made an impression on me, and since then, for the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: "If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?" And whenever the answer has been "No" for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.

Remembering that I'll be dead soon is the most important tool I've ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything — all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure - these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.

About a year ago I was diagnosed with cancer. I had a scan at 7:30 in the morning, and it clearly showed a tumor on my pancreas. I didn't even know what a pancreas was. The doctors told me this was almost certainly a type of cancer that is incurable, and that I should expect to live no longer than three to six months. My doctor advised me to go home and get my affairs in order, which is doctor's code for prepare to die. It means to try to tell your kids everything you thought you'd have the next 10 years to tell them in just a few months. It means to make sure everything is buttoned up so that it will be as easy as possible for your family. It means to say your goodbyes.

I lived with that diagnosis all day. Later that evening I had a biopsy, where they stuck an endoscope down my throat, through my stomach and into my intestines, put a needle into my pancreas and got a few cells from the tumor. I was sedated, but my wife, who was there, told me that when they viewed the cells under a microscope the doctors started crying because it turned out to be a very rare form of pancreatic cancer that is curable with surgery. I had the surgery and I'm fine now.

This was the closest I've been to facing death, and I hope it's the closest I get for a few more decades. Having lived through it, I can now say this to you with a bit more certainty than when death was a useful but purely intellectual concept:

No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don't want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life's change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true.

Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

When I was young, there was an amazing publication called The Whole Earth Catalog, which was one of the bibles of my generation. It was created by a fellow named Stewart Brand not far from here in Menlo Park, and he brought it to life with his poetic touch. This was in the late 1960's, before personal computers and desktop publishing, so it was all made with typewriters, scissors, and polaroid cameras. It was sort of like Google in paperback form, 35 years before Google came along: it was idealistic, and overflowing with neat tools and great notions.

Stewart and his team put out several issues of The Whole Earth Catalog, and then when it had run its course, they put out a final issue. It was the mid-1970s, and I was your age. On the back cover of their final issue was a photograph of an early morning country road, the kind you might find yourself hitchhiking on if you were so adventurous. Beneath it were the words: "Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish." It was their farewell message as they signed off. Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish. And I have always wished that for myself. And now, as you graduate to begin anew, I wish that for you.

Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish.

"Help yourself before you help others"

Recently, I went to Bali for the second time as my photography buddy paid the ticket for me. I went there with two others friends of mine.  Both have never been to Bali and were excited to see what Bali is all about. 

Throughout the trip, I discovered a few things:
  • I always want to change others when I really don't need to. - Hey, I just noticed that people don't need to be changed unless if they require any. Accept people the way they are and we will appreciate their existence;

  • Everyone who believes in religion will never be shy to pray. Looking at the Hindu's there, they pray at any places. Why should we be ignorant when others do bow to their God?;

  • Party never ends. Someone who loves to party will not realize how different life is to compared with normal people who enjoy their life in a different manner. There's a lot of ways to enjoy our life ; Food, travelling, reading books, charity etc. getting pissed and high on drugs is just a way of life which shouldn't be practiced;

  • Young people tend to be rebellious if we control them. What we should do is to educate them on the life and let them decide. Human nature, we control because we are afraid but if we let go our fear, it will be much better;

  • One of the best ways to connect to people is to be a good listener;

  • Sometimes we need to look at others as they might be our mirror;

  • Self-reflection is good as it shows how good or bad we are;

  • Change is a process. If you fail today, keep on trying to change as you'll add on experience and values to your life;

  • The most respected person is someone that can live up to their values. They don't leave the society just because they are changing but they instill and believe that their values will eventually be the eye openers to others;

  • Respect others and share the love with others and you'll be blessed.

In conclusion, whatever that has happened in our life, don't ever regret it. Enjoy and let's take a small step to ask ourselves why are we on earth. There's a reason for that and from there, anything we want to do will be done in a different manner.

p/s: I've always wanted to change all my life but unable to follow through. Why? Is it because of too many things that I want to change or is it because for the purpose of making other people see it?

# 4: Singletask.
Multitasking is out. 
Turns out this badge of honor from the ’90s is more fiction than fact. Our brains don’t multitask, they just rapidly switch between tasks, sometimes fast enough for us to believe we’re doing many things at once. Problem is, every time we switch, there is a “ramping cost” in your brain, it takes anywhere from a few second to 15 minutes for your brain to fully re-engage. This makes you feel insanely busy, but simultaneously craters productivity, creativity and increases feelings of anxiety and stress. 
Multitasking also requires you to hold a lot of information in your working memory, which is controlled by a part of the brain known as the prefrontal cortex (PFC). But the PFC is also responsible for will-power, and for keeping fear and anxiety in check. Multitasking increases the “cognitive load” on the PFC, overwhelming it and effectively killing it’s ability to keep fear, anxiety and the taunt of distraction at bay. 
Simple solution–just say no. Do one thing at a time in intense, short bursts.

Something to ponder....

  1. Everyone seems to work hard for life but how many of us really take the time to invest in life after?
  2. No matter how rich or poor we are, when we die, we will be wrapped in the white cloth with is known as 'kain kafan'and placed in the the ground.
  3. Life is too short for us to brag. Everyone should be treated the same. Respect each others and you'll be respected and loved.
  4. Forgive and forget is one of the best attitude.
  5. Don't judge someone based on what you see or you heard. Judge base on the heart. We never know how a person is till we know the real he or she.
  6. Always pray for each other. InsyaAllah God will bless you.
  7. The best charity is when the left hand doesn't know that the right hand had given out the money.

Mission statement, vision statement and core values are actually the foundation of a company. From what I see in Malaysia, most companies have all those but it's not being communicated well to the employees. What's the point of having bombastic core values which at the end of the days, nobody understands it or even practice it.

Recently, I have read two books which are Delivering Happiness: A Path to Profits, Passion and Purpose and Losing My Virginity by Sir Richard Branson.

The first book mentioned is written by Tone Hseih, founder of Zappos which was eventually bought over by Amazam.com. The core values instilled by him is:

1. Deliver WOW Through Service
2. Embrace and Drive Change
3. Create Fun and A little Weirdness
4. Be adventurous, creative and open- minded
5. Persue Growth and Learning
6. Build Open and Honest Relationships With Communication
7. Build a Positive team and Family Spirit
8. Do more with less
9. Be Passionate and Determined
10. Be Humble

I was impressed with the core values. Why? Look at it. One by one. Don't you think it's more of a culture which can be imposed and practiced? I would love to have this kind of core values which is practical and make sense. For Tony, core values should be something for people to follow and happy about it. So far, I've not heard any core values that has the word "wow". A normal spoken language which is being used as a core value. Ain't that great? Tony focus his attention towards the employees first and customer as secondary. Without a strong base of employee, your company will never be big enough for global capitalization.

Another book which was written by the global entrepreneur, Sir Richard Branson also focus on his employee.

"Conventions dictates that a company should look after its shareholders first, its customers next and last of all worry about its employees. Virgin does the opposite. For us, our employees matter most. It just seems common sense to me that, if you start off with a happy, well motivated workforce, you are more likely to have happy customers. And in due course the resulting profits will make your shareholders happy. " (Page 410: Losing My Virginity).

Think about it. Both companies emphasis on their employees by having their own cultures. In an organzation, we can't copy others culture. We can learn but we can copy. 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week. You do the math for a year. Without having the great culture, employees will come to work for money instead of seeing it as part of the life where they really enjoy. Happy workers come and work with joy. They need little attention. They work like an auto-pilot. Unlike unhappy employees, they are forced to do the work. They forced themselves to come to work. I believe we have choices to make in life. Don't let the life controls you. Start taking action and control life.

Not all companies have great culture and values. What should we do if our company belongs in the sad case? Having a set of core values which is valueless since nobody even understand and practice it. Complaints doesn't lead to anywhere. Take ACTION. What? You can always starts discussing among your colleagues and find the right medium for you to highlight this. Your small action will actually be rewarded handsomely. Trust me. When we focus so much about outside world, we are actually preparing ourself for a bad time. There won't be any company in the world that make money all the time. There are times when they suffer. They can only wake up again if they have the right employees that can bring them up again. Apple is one classic example. They rised during the 70's and eventually were kind off quiet for a while. Then Steve Jobs just came in again and did his magic. Without him, there won't even be I-Pods, I-Phones, I-Pads and list goes on. God! Amazing.

Mission, Vission, core values - culture.

Think about it. Amazing companies distinguish themselves with other companies by having their own set of cultures. For them, happy people will lead to happy customer. Happy customer will bring more profits. At the end of the day, it's a win-win situation for all.

What if… What could have happened…what, what and what

How many times have we heard this from other people or we ourselves said this.

Me myself, though I know I could have done better if not for the too much de-tour in life, I rarely used the ‘what if’.

Things that has already past can never be changed. It will remain in the history book.

Moving forward, instead of applying or using the ‘ what if’ in life, why not practice ‘ what can I do next’.

Guess this is much better and it can improve the way we look at things.

Great people will always strive for the future instead of crying and complaining of the past. Past will remain past. It's only in the Hollywood movies where they showed we can change the past. Whatever that has happened, take it as a lesson and additional experience. Experience is expensive. We can buy it. We can only feel it.

Yesterday, I completed my first run - 3km - with stops hehe. Met a lot of friends along the way, "Eh..hi!...Eh..hi!" Wasn't quite confident at first, and then I realized that 3km isn't that far after all.

Mr. was fast! Of course being the nice bf, he accompanied me for the first 1km. The second I met a friend of mine along the way, he was gone in a flash! (exageratting here hehe) Mesti dalam kepala "Adoii... lembabnya gf aku ni....."

I have to admit that I'm not fit - low stamina level. But looking at everyone else there, I am very motivated to build up my stamina now onwards. I wanna join the next run and complete it without stopping! I can do thissssss! I can keep up with u Mr! ;)
