Many times we tell ourselves that "Yes, I Can," as a way to motivate ourselves to be better. But little did I know that this is only a small part of us conquering our own minds.

I used to tell my dad, "I don't think I'm that good at Additional Maths subject, I don't seem to be scoring it like others do," and back then he told me that, "Look! Saying that, means you are already telling your mind that you are not good. You are already setting a wall in your mind, a blockage,". I never really understood it, I mean, Hello? Why can't I complain that I'm not good? Am I suppose to say that I'm good at everything even when I'm not? Hellooo?

But you know what, we have the capability to trick our mind. Success is about conquering the mind. This is something that I just realized these past week, thanks to the IMKK seminar by Dr Azizan that I attended and also by discussing further with my father-in-law.

We all know that our brain has waves:

1. Beta Wave - The Waking Consciousness
This is the heightened state of alertness, the state when you are walking and talking, the state when you're awake. Its most important for effective functioning throughout the day. The Beta wave has voices; the nagging inner voice that gives reasoning and logical thinking to every situation you go through out the day.

2. Alpha Wave - The Deep Relaxation Wave
This is the time that your subconcious mind takes over the brain. It happens when you are relaxing, or when you're just about to sleep or during light meditation. Do you know that this is the time that you can program your mind for success?

3. The other two waves are the Theta & Delta Waves - which are the state the brain goes into when sleeping and during deep sleep. Not so important here as I would like to share about the Beta & Alpha wave.

The ALPHA WAVE. The time when you are in that relaxed mode, is the best time that you can program your mind on what you want. This is also the strongest connection you can have with Allah, in telling Him your heart desires.

Some of the times that you brain gets into the alpha mode is through:

1. Solat (Salah)

If you read the book 'Think & Grow Rich' by Napolean Hill, or if your ask any psychologists, one of the ways to get your mind into the subconcious state is by breathing in deeply, hold your breath for 4 seconds and then breathe out again. Do you know that to achieve khusyukness (focus) during solat is to breathe in and out this way just before you start solat and also just before each sentences of reciting your surahs.

By doing this, you will get your mind into the Alpha state, and shut down all the voices from the Beta wave; you know, those voices of logical thinking and reasoning? Focus on Allah. And then right after your salaam, recite your prayers (du'a), while still in that state. Feel that connection that you have with Him.

The same can be applied to Zikir & reading the Quran. Breathe in deeply, hold for 4 seconds, and breathe out again. Feel that connection. Instead of praying just because you have to pray, and read the Quran just because you have to.. and keep on looking for that 'feeling' of connection. Ask Him all that you want, tell Him that you want that job position, that you want to score that particular exam, that you want a child, be specific! When do you want it? What is the score that you want? Which position? Which car model? Which year? Don't just say success, it can mean different things to different people.

When you first start practicing this, be patient with yourself. It takes time for your mind to get used to this.

2. Before sleeping & upon waking up

This is also why its sunnah for you to recite do'a just before sleeping and after waking up. Set your mind on what you want before you sleep, make do'a to Allah and do the same upon waking up.

This situation is also good for parents to shape up their children's characters. Just before they sleep, you know when they're in that dreamy zone, say positive things to them, tell them that they're smart and intelligent, that they're good muslims and muslimahs, that they will be nice to others. You can do the same to your partners too! Tell your husband "You're a good muslim, you're a good husband," and tell your wife "You're beautiful, you will have beautiful children," etc.

3. During shower

Do you realize how your mind comes up with splendid superb ideas when you're having a shower? I feel that all the time! That sometimes I just open up the door and shout a random idea to Mr. so that I will not forget it when I'm out.  Tell yourself positive things during this time. Even affirmative things to yourself, even when you haven't achieved it.

It seems that water has a strong purification power that it puts you into a relaxed state. Which is why sometimes when you're stressed out, you feel much better after your bath. Which is also why we take wudhu', to get ourselves prepared to face the alpha state.

4. When drinking water.

Just like the point before, water helps in getting yourself into the alpha state. That short duration of time when you drink water, talk to your brain.

5. During orgasm

This may be a little too private for those unmarried couples, but orgasm is indeed the highest state of the subconscious mind that you can reach before falling into the next wave. During that peak time of sex, ensure that you imagine having a good child, imagine if it is a girl or a boy, imagine how cute he/she is. Imagine your success story, who will be there beside you, where will you be in 5-10 years time. Imagine and believe it.

There are also other ways like listening to music and doing yoga. Google and you'll find out more.

Psychologists say that in order for you to change a habit, or in order for your mind to believe what you tell them, you have to repeatedly tell yourself the same dream for 44 days. According to my father-in-law, in Islam, its 40 days. I'm not too sure the magical story behind 40 days. He says its in the Quran. I will have to understand more from him.

Print out pictures of your dreams. Write them out. FEEL your dream, go and test drive that car that you've always wanted, or visit that house that you want to buy, try your best to feel it so that the imagination becomes stronger.

Many people can imagine but underestimate the power of the mind. You think you can only achieve so and so when the truth is, you can stretch your mind to imagine more than you think you can. Imagine the impossible. Your mind will do the magic, your body will automatically just follow your mind. Conquer your mind. Learn to shut out that voices in your head that tell you that you cannot, telling you that its impossible. Stop whining and stop telling yourself "Why can't I do this, why am I so unlucky'

These are some of the things that are explain in Western books like 'Think & Grow Rich', 'The Power of Your Subconcious Mind', 'The Secret' . But little did I know that many of our everyday Islamic practices can already help us getting what we want, provided we understand how to and why is it that we do what we do. Islam IS the way of life. There's just so many secrets that you need to unlock! You'll be surprised!

You know how we've been taught to 'Usaha, Doa & Tawakal'? I now learn that you should 'Doa, Usaha & Tawakal,'. Set your mind right, then work towards it and then insyaAllah, you will get what you want.

If not, like I always said, Allah Knows Best.

Now I wonder, why didn't anyone tell me this before this? Come to think of it, actually my father did, and so did Mr. but I chose not to listen, only believing part of it, and another part of me being skeptical, saying 'How is that possible?'

Conquer your mind. Imagine the impossible. And go and achieve it.

I had a discussion with my General Manager on work issues. Well, I was talking about our vendor list and she said to me a few things:

1. Don't talk, just do.
2. Do things better from the beginning as this will add on to the work values. It can give a significant impact towards the work.
3. Do more homework/ research since I am on the verge of quitting smoking.
4. Complaint sucks. Be more positive in changing the wrong things.

Ok, good advise. That's why she's the GM and I'm the executive. Point taken boss!

I woke up at 5am in the morning and I had some difficulty in breathing. I prayed Isya' and slept again. Woke up and felt something is going to be wrong with me. Sick?

Well, in the office, i was a little quiet today. In the morning, my boss came over to me and ask me how's your lung? I'm like, what? my lung? Oh, I just said I'm not feeling that good. He said that there's nothing wrong with me (he knows I am quitting my ciggies). It's all in the head. I just sit and listen to the old man babbling.

He called me to his room and was giving me some words of advise.

1. You started smoking because you want to be the macho man. Puffing here and there and acted like you are a man. (well, this happens to most guys/ gals).
2. The cigarette can lead to impotence one day. (I head about this when I was young).
3. My wife loves me and that's why she is asking/ persuading me to quit. (ok, for whatever reason it is, it is for something good. I'll do it and I am still doing it).

Well, today is my 2nd week of quitting. Not bad actually. This time I am quitting for real. Should be.

So far, I managed to control the urge to smoke. My ways of controlling the urge is :-

1. Eat less/ eat before I get full.
2. Drink loads and loads of plain water.
3. Start exercising - well, it ain't easy but I am trying my best to exercise. Hopefully this will be my changes in the coming months.
4. Don't talk about cigarette. You talk, you are missing it. DON't talk. I am doing that and so far it works.

My ultimate goal is to quit smoking as I believe it can give me a lot of motivation in my life. Quitting something that you like is like sacrificing some part of your life isn't it?

Pleasure is eternal. You develop and you invest in eternal happiness.
Don't be cheated and fooled by the society and media.

You create you life. Whatever happens in the past is for you to create a better history. Mourning is for sore losers. Wake up. Be the man!

We are the champion.

I came across one article regarding Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Albukhari and I find it interesting to be shared with others.

50 facts about his interesting life and principles.

Saya mahu meninggalkan WARISAN UNTUK ANAK BANGSA YANG KEKAL BERPANJANGAN.

2. (berkenaan know who) Bangsa lain tak mengapa tapi orang Melayu kena berdamping dengan orang politik sedikit-sedikit.

Tetapi tentulah ia memakan masa. TIADA JALAN SINGKAT.

4. Saya MENGENALI KEKUATAN DAN KELEMAHAN SAYA.

10. Saya pun suka kemewahan. Saya pun suka tengok dunia, ke Tokyo , New York dan London . Saya pun suka pakai baju elok. Tapi kita hendak bermewah setakat mana, hendak pakai baju banyak mana, hendak tidur dalam berapa rumah satu malam, hendak makan pun sampai larat mana ?

11. Dalam hidup ini kita sebenarnya TIDAK ADA STATUS,ADA MASA DI ATAS ADA MASA DI BAWAH.

17. Saya sedih media tonjolkan saya begini.

25. Orang kata saya takda duit tapi banyak hutang. Orang berniaga mana yang tak berhutang. Tapi MESTI TAHU BAGAIMANA HENDAK MEMINJAM DAN MEMBAYARNYA SEMULA . Ada cara boleh kita buat. Tapi sebelum berhutang RM100 juta mesti sudah fikir bagaimana hendak membayarnya balik. Mesti ada tanggungjawab. BANYAK ORANG MAHU SENANG TAPI TIDAK RAMAI YANG MAHU BERTANGGUNG JAWAB .

26. (perasaan setiap kali mendapat rezeki) . Saya ini kata orang Kedah, lebai kodok bukan lebai pondok. Tapi saya tahu hal-hal asas.

32. KEKAYAAN INI TUHAN BERI KEPADA SAYA UNTUK SAYA MENOLONG ORANG LAIN PULA.SAYA PERCAYA KEPADA KEBERKATAN REZEKI.HARI INI KITA TOLONG ORANG,ESOK LUSA ORANG AKAN TOLONG KITA PULA DENGAN CARA YANG LAIN.

35. Lifestyle ?

42. Sikap merendah diri perlu sentiasa ada dalam diri seseorang walau setinggi mana pun kejayaan dicapai.

44. SAYA SENDIRI BERHUTANG SAMBIL BERNIAGA DAN BUAT SUMBANGAN AMAL JARIAH.SAYA TAK MAHU TUNGGU HUTANG HABIS BARU HENDAK BUAT SEMUA NI .Saya takut kalau hutang habis saya pun mati dan apa pun tak sempat saya buat.

45. Saya biasa saja.

48.SAYA GEMBIRA DAPAT MEMBANTU.SAYA MAHU ORANG LAIN MERASAI KESENANGAN APA YANG PERNAH SAYA RASA.Saya tahu bagaimana perasaanya.

50. SAYA RASA KITA SUDAH TERLALU BANYAK KETINGGALAN.

Note:

When I read this article, I just realized that there are some statements which I have told my wife and some of my friends.

Reasons for me to be rich :-

1. To share my wealth with others who has no chance of having it. I want people to be able to sit in my luxury car, nice house, eat and dine and go to mosque together with me;

2. I want to help the poor, unfortunate and elderly.

3. Islam is simple. God asked us to pray only 5 times and to give some of our money through zakat and charity. BUT, the question is, is it sufficient to give so little when u are capable of giving more? Everything will be questioned at the end of the day. People want to be rich. Very rich. Do they know that being rich is not easy and once u r there, can u do more good deeds? The key to enter paradise to do more good things while we are still here. Being rich is one way to do more good things. That's a fact. Some of the world billionaires is practicing this. Giving more as they believe more will come in.

4. I want to build a mosque. A mosque where the muslims can pray and sleep. A mosque which is 24 hours. Unlike the current mosque in Malaysia which close at certain time. The mosque should have a place where there'll be people teaching, preaching and practicing what they want.

5. I want to spread dakwah and motivate/ inspires others to be great. Great in the sense of a weak muslim as what has been taught by Prophet Muhammad. My achievement is just a platform to attract more people.

6. I want to create businesses for poor people. Charity alone does not help others to get out from their poor life. If given a chance, I think those people can do better and improve their life.

7. Life is short for us to be selfish. God creates human for each other to learn and help each other.

8. I want to travel. Travel to see the greatness of Allah.

I hope one day, Allah will help me and guide me to the path which will lead me to paradise. Ameen.

How many of us strive to be a good muslims? We all are created and designed to have big dreams such as big cars, nice house, branded clothes, loads of cash etc. How many desired to wake up late at night for Tahajud? How many of us take 5-10 minutes to pray Duha? Or how many of us actually pray 5 times a day? Ask yourself.

I have big dreams. I'm a dreamer, always has been. But a dream without hardwork, is useless.

As a human being, I can lie for all the desires that I have. Sometimes, I envy those people who has such fantastic cars, great jobs, big house etc. Compared to me, I have none of those. Comparing me and the street beggars, I am far away better. Comparisons will lead to temptations and there is borderline between being grateful and being greedy.

Have we ever say Thanks to Almighty for whatever we have or we keep on saying we are great when we get what we want? Can we spare some time to pray 2 rakaats of prayer when we receive something great? We say thanks to our boss when we receive praises, promotions etc. Wouldn't God love the people who remembers Him for whatever things He has given?

Being good is not easy. It is a behavior. A well desired behavior. A few simple ways of being good is by emulating the akhlak of Rasulullah. Smile, charity, being good to parents, maintaining a good language and always think of others before yourself. Simple. Start being simple and realistic. InsyaAllah, God will help us to be a better muslims.

A year ago I made an attempt to quit smoking and managed to actually quit for 50 days. Well, I thought I had won the battle but no! I made a wrong move by smoking a ciggie when I was out for an office trip with my colleagues. I thought a stick wouldn't effect my cravings but I was wrong. I once again become a smoker from there on.

I was told by my mother in law to quit smoking when I was engaged with her daughter. She asked me to promise to quit and I said I'll try to quit 2 months after marriage and yet, I was still smoking and it furiates her badly. I asked myself should I continue making someone angry or should I quit. Ok, if i quit because of her, I will tend to smoke again isn't it? Then its not about her. I've always wanted to quit. Well, whatever it is, smoking is not good. It's NOT COOL either. So for whatever reason it may be, I just ought to quit!

Well, I told Mrs that I will smoke the last ciggie on my birthday which was on 15th April. So from 16th of April to 18th of April, I have managed to stop. 3 days it is. So now my target is to complete the whole week of not smoking. All the best Mr! That's how I keep telling myself.

"I am stronger than The Great Wall of China".

All the best to you guys who is trying to quit as well. Let's keep on supporting each other.

A few things that I learned from the past failure:-

1) keep the mind occupied with something else;
2) DO NOT TALK ABOUT CIGARETTE. the concept is simple. e.g. You break up with your partner and you keep on talking about your x. Doesn't that means you missing him/ her? Being ignorant is the key.;
3) Do not tell the whole world you are quitting. The more people knows you are quitting, the more they'll try to bring you down. Logic behind this is smokers will not support their friends to quit as they themselves are unable to quit;
4) Drink more plain water. Less coffee, less sugar. This will detox your body and flush out the bad chemicals inside your body;
5) Eat less as well. When we eat less, the less we want to smoke. (this is just me trying to diet as well);
6) Pray and pray. By increasing our spiritual, we will not be tempted to smoke. (again, this is just something that I'm trying to do at the moment).

Well, I'll keep on posting about the progress and let's see if I can beat the crave to smoke for real this time.

May God be with me this time. Amen.

I was having a short conversation with a friend of mine while futsalling earlier and he was sharing a few tips with me.

He said, his principle in life is simple. He is motivated by DUIT or money in english.

I was like, money? Well, I guess everyone or almost all human being is motivated by money. Anyways, the interesting part about the DUIT is it is actually Dua' (prayers), Usaha ( effort), Istiqamah (steadfastness) and Tawakkal (trust and reliance on God's will). So there it goes. It has a wonderful hidden meaning under the duit (money) principle. Kinda cool it seems. I believe it is practical and doable. I'll try and see if this principle can work for me.

In a few days time, I'll be celebrating my 29th birthday. It will be such a memorable day for me this time around.

1. I will be celebrating with my wife since I just got married for 2 months; and
2. I will be celebrating my birthday in Brunei. I'll be sitting in a ferrari or if i'm lucky, I might be able to drive the ferrari.

Well, nothing feels better when u know there is a person who is lovely next to u. Will always be there whether he/she likes it or not. That's the best gift from God to me so far. looking at all the greatest man on earth, u can see that there will be a woman next to him. No man can achieve or sustain glory without a powerful woman next to him.

"She is a lovely woman Anas. Make sure u take good care of her." --This is a statement which I have received quite a number of time. Yes, I will take good care of my pearl. InsyaAllah, I will be the best for her. Finally I have a cause in my life to strive for the best. All these while I have been looking deep into myself and always been wondering what should I do. Why should I do things. bla bla...Now, I just know there'll be no more slip up. Whatever happens this time, I will be the champion for my wife and my family. I don't need to win a medal. It's about letting them know that they can be proud and happy to have a successful man in their arms.

Oh Allah, for my coming 29th birthday, I just want to thank you for the blessings that You have given to me and my family. May You grant us happiness and Jannah oh Allah.

I just completed reading a book, " The Soul of A Butterfly" from Muhammad Ali and Hana Yasmeen Ali. I was amazed and touched by Muhammad Ali. The words, ideology and thinking is great. It makes me wonder, if he embraced Islam and were proud to his new religion, what am I then? I was born a Muslim and still a Muslim. What have I done that shows that I am a Muslim?

"I believe in the religion of Islam. I believe in Allah and peace"- Muhammad Ali

How touching is that?As a Muslim, I am touched and vows to be a better Muslims. Being a true Muslim will not bring me backwards but I believe that God is with me to the better path of my life. I believe Islam will lead me to a place where I have not been. A place of greatness which I have been looking for.

I have been enjoying reading books lately and I guess I should start reading Holy Quran, Tafseer, The Autobiography of Muhammad and his followers. I vow not be a robot and being dictate by someone. I can listen but NOT to be dictate. Only God can dictate me.

The fear towards mankind should be wiped away. No matter how big, rich, intelligent someone is, only He is Great and that's why He is the Almighty.

Well, I am not a pious or a changed person. Don't change. Change will lead to catastrophe as what has been faced by me. Look for inspirations and motivations daily. There are many honestly.

God created people for reasons. Messi, Muhammad Ali and Lance Amstrong for example, they are great athletes who inspires millions of sport fans due to their unique character. Wealth, fame and glories does not bother them. They inspire with their discipline and character. All of em' believe in God. It shows that whoever believe in God and has a good heart, they will not crumble no matter what.

Our life is too short too complain and brag. Let's change the way we see at things and be thankful for once. No matter what religion we are, we are all praying to the same Al-Mighty. Let's smile and do good deeds starting from today.

Small changes, big differences.

Happy Friday all!

First : Fix in your mind the exact amount of money you desire. It is not sufficient merely to say, " I want plenty of money." Be definite as to the amount.

Second: Determine exactly what you intend to give in return for the money you desire. (There is no such reality as "something for nothing.")

Third: Establish a definite date when you intend to possess the money you desire.

Fourth: Create a definite plan for carrying out your desire, and begin at once, whether you are ready or not, to put this plan into action.

Fifth: Write out clear, concise statement of the amount of money you intend to acquire, name the time limit for its acquisition, state what you intend to give in return for the money, and describe clearly the plan through which you intend to accumulate it.

Sixth: Read your written statement aloud, twice daily, once just before retiring at night, and once after arising in the morning.
